Job Description:

The High School Assistant Principal/Dean of Students is responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the administration of the total school program. Assistant Principals/Deans are the primary administrator and coordinator of all day-to-day student management and attendance matters, as well as charting the path to graduation and post-secondary planning.

WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON:

The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Assist the principal with implementation of School District policies.
  • Direct student responsibilities include:
  • Student registration.
  • Monitor student attendance and process truancy issues.
  • Student discipline.
  • Student four year planning and successful graduation.
  • Develop and monitor 504 plans.
  • Student support services including guidance, counseling and group consultation.
  • Coordinate and supervise grade level meetings.

  • Assist students with self-evaluation of aptitude and ability by interpreting test scores including ASVAB, PLAN, ACT, SAT and other pertinent data.
  • Assist students and parents with course and subject selection, registration, and post-secondary planning and advising, applications and scholarships.
  • Maintain student records and protect confidentiality.
  • Actively promote school mission, vision and objectives to students, parents, and community.
  • Collaborate with all employees to familiarize and reinforce the range of school services to improve individual student learning experiences.
  • Coordinate Student Support Team services including Special Education, 504 services, and student mental health services.
  • Develop and implement student orientation and transition program.
  • Facilitate continuous school improvement plans.
  • Supervise and coordinate Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) programming.
  • Supervise and coordinate diversity and social emotional learning (SEL) programming.g
  • Conduct teacher and LEAF and performance reviews.
  • Supervise and coordinate, the student registration process, grade level meetings and other activities.
  • Duties specific to this position:
  • Coordinate and supervise substitute teachers.
  • Work with the Student Information Director to enhance or correct student contact information.
  • Supervise and coordinate student locker assignments and locker maintenance.
  • Supervise and coordinate student activities and assembly programs.
  • Supervise and coordinate student ACT, PSAT, ASVAB and advanced placement testing.
  • Supervise and coordinate grading process and policy.
  • Supervise and coordinate credit by assessment process.
  • Supervise and coordinate STRIVE program.
  • Supervise and coordinate Opportunities Day for career planning.
  • Supervise and coordinate the bell schedule and finals schedule.
  • Coordinate and assign lunchroom supervision.
  • Supervise World Language and Special Education Programs.
  • Supervise and coordinate staff development and PLC's.

  • Attend meetings and conferences as directed by the principal.
  • Assist the administrative team in the supervision of co-curricular activities.
  • Attend local/state conventions and workshops as directed by the principal.
  • Represent the principal at school, professional and public meetings in the principal's absence.
  • Assist with high school staffing.
  • Oversee building security, property and persons.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Must possess a valid license as a principal in the State of Minnesota.
  • Prefer experience as a secondary administrator with a demonstrated record of leadership; a strong focus on students/student achievement; commitment to school improvement initiatives; a collaborative leadership style; expanded opportunities for parent/community involvement in the school.
