Job Summary
This is for a part-time position (20 hours per week).
This position exists to support the work of the Toxic Reduction
program by assisting the product testing specialist with
development and implementation of product and packaging testing
projects and supporting the overall product testing program at MPCA
which is designed to identify toxic chemicals in products for
elimination, reduction, substitution with safer alternatives,
enforcement, and/or education. The position is needed to help
conduct sampling, analysis and testing, and quality assurance of
projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Chemistry, Toxicology,
Public Health, or another related field.
OR
Two (2) years of paraprofessional or technical experience
conducting lab analysis, data analysis, data quality review and the
use of science tools and following standard scientific procedures
and/or quality assurance plans (an associate degree in
Environmental Science, Chemistry, Toxicology, Public Health, or a
closely related field will substitute for one year of the required
experience).
OR
One (1) year of professional experience conducting lab analysis,
data analysis, data quality review and the use of science tools and
following standard scientific procedures and/or quality assurance
plans.
Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements).
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants

will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the
United States and to complete the required employment eligibility
verification form upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to effectively communicate scientific information to a
general audience using plain language.
Knowledge and experience in analytical chemistry, environmental
science, green chemistry, toxicology and/or public health.
Understanding of toxic chemical and knowledge of state and federal
environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to toxic
chemicals.
Experience with screening and analytical chemistry techniques,
equipment and procedures, screening and testing methods, detection
limits, and reporting findings.
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to
effectively document and keep track of data and projects.
Experience performing analyses with tools such as Tableau, SQL,
Excel, Python, R, ArcGIS or other statistical or data analysis
software.
Willingness and ability to learn new data analysis tools, skills
and software.
Physical Requirements
Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying of products, files
and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one
which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is
often necessary in carrying out job duties.
Additional Requirements
A driver's license is an essential function of this position. This
requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver's License.
The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver's
license AND a satisfactory DLR check.
Requires a Class D driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a
gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic
driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long
as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
