Job Description:

Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking a Controller for our Lakeville, Minnesota caproate office. Job Summary : Maintain a systematic set of accounting records of business transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Manage a team of accounting personnel performing a variety of accounting functions related to general accounting, accounts payable, and sales tax. Manage the month-end close and financial reporting processes. Essential Job Functions : Develop and manage a team of accounting personnel who perform a variety of daily or weekly accounting duties related to cash management, accounts payable, and sales tax. Assist with resolving problems or disputes. Manage the month-end close process, including review and preparation of journal entries, and prepare monthly financial statements and related analysis for management. Manage and review the preparation of monthly account reconciliations for numerous balance sheet accounts and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items. Manage all aspects of the sales and use tax function, including: performance and maintenance of the software utilized for managing sales tax rates and exemptions; timely filing of sales tax returns and payment of taxes owed; maintenance of customer sales tax exemptions and related setup in the ERP system; maintenance of accurate tax codes in the ERP system for all inventory items; and oversee any sales tax audits Assist with maintaining a system of effective internal controls to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting. Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and preparation of federal and state income tax returns, including preparation of data requested prior to the audit and processing data requests during the audit. Maintain accurate and current data on all shareholders; prepare quarterly distributions as directed; at year end, coordinate the collection of tax-related data from shareholders and the distribution of completed federal and state tax forms to shareholders. Oversee a variety of tax related processes, including: payment of quarterly and annual corporate income taxes and property taxes; preparation and filing of all annual Forms 1099 with the IRS and state tax authorities. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements & Qualifications : Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required CPA or CMA certification preferred Combined five to seven years' experience in public accounting and/or industry, working with privately-held companies in audit and accounting Federal and multi-state corporate tax experience is highly desirable A minimum of 3 years' experience managing accounting staff Ability to read, write and speak English Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, employment policies, operating instructions, and procedural manuals. Thorough knowledge of general accounting including skills knowledge plus the application of general accounting theory Advanced skills in using Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables Knowledgeable in using Microsoft Outlook and Word Ability to quickly become an expert in using the AS400 ERP system Maintain confidentiality related to all financial matters and other sensitive information Excellent written and verbal communication skills Must be detailed oriented Strong analytical and problem solving skills Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask Ability to effectively work with others throughout the organization Must be flexible, open minded, self motivated and able to work independently Mental & Physical Demands : Attention to detail to assure accuracy Analytical ability Frequent deadlines may result in a fast pace of work and stress Continuous use of hands for writing and computer keyboard use Continuous use of a computer monitor requiring close vision The ability to work with a relevant volume of alpha and numeric detail Frequent use of a telephone - listening and speaking Ability to work at a desk throughout the day Ability to work long hours as required to meet deadlines as related to year-end audit Job duties and requirements may be subject to modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. Work Environment : Work is typically performed in an office environment. Work will typically be performed Monday through Friday. Working more than 40 hours per workweek may be required.
